About the event

Our creative approach to writing instruction will engage even your most reluctant writer. During this course, we complete four outside-the-box writing assignments that students are sure to love. We use engaging presentations to introduce each assignment and guide students through the pre-writing, writing, and post-writing process. Students are provided informational handouts, pre-writing brainstorming sheets, a graphic organizer, peer editing checklists, and rough/final copy sheets to guide them through the writing process! Students will have the opportunity to collectively choose 4 of 5 creative writing assignments to complete during this course.

Creative Writing Assignments:

1. SOUNDTRACK OF MY LIFE

Your student will create a mixed tape for their life by choosing ten songs that they connect with or that represent them.

2. MY GENERATION

Your student will write an open letter discussing misunderstandings people have about their generation and why they are different than the way people perceive them.

3. LIFE IN THREE TEXTURES

Your student will use persuasive and personal narrative writing to talk about their life using three textures.

4. MAKE YOUR OWN SCHOOL Your student will invent their own school, write about their first day, and develop a promotional advertisement to recruit students.
